Over half a million registered to vote

A total of 561,033 voters are registered to vote in the upcoming presidential elections, of whom 276,029 are men and 285,004 are women, chief returning officer Costas Constantinou said on Wednesday.

The head of the elections service explained that the total includes people in Kyrenia and Famagusta “as soon as their information is confirmed by the presidential commissioner’s office for humanitarian issues”.

The biggest group of voters, 107,801, are aged 70 and above, 48,527 of whom are men and 59,274 women.

Those in their 30s came next, amounting to 100,060 voters, of whom 51,061 were men and 48,999 women.

Those in their 40s amount to 93,108, (46,554 men and 46,554 women), while those in their 60s amount to 92,888 (46,049 men and 46,839 women).

Those in their 50s amount to 89,572, of whom 44,083 men and 45,489 women.

In addition, voters between 20-29 amount to 69,248 (35,507 men and 33,741 women) and finally voters in the 18-19 age group amount to 8,356, of which 4,248 are men and 4,108 are women.

The election service also announced that 35 polling stations will operate abroad.

Five will be in Athens, three in Thessaloniki, three in the Cyprus High Commission building in London, two in the Cyprus Community Centre in London and one each in Volos, Heraklion, Ioannina, Komotini, Larissa, Patras, Rethymno, Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Berlin, Vienna, Brussels, Luxembourg, New York, Dubai, Paris, Sofia, Stockholm and The Hague.
