A jazz evening with Ermis Michael and Vasiliki Anastasiou

A jazz night is coming up at Technopolis 20 as two well-established Cypriot musicians prepare a cosy performance. Part of the Paphos venue’s Jazz Music Concert Series is this second jazz evening for 2023 taking place on January 25.

Vasiliki Anastasiou on voice and Ermis Michail on guitar, a beloved duo in the local music scene, join forces once again for an intimate evening of jazz standards and swinging tunes. Their performance will include their favourite soul, jazz and pop songs, incorporating strong influences from blues, soul and gospel, along with a selection of Greek songs arranged in a jazz sound.

Both musicians have careers spanning from Cyprus to the international music scene. Michail is one of the most active guitar players in Cyprus and has composed music for theatre and dance performances performed in festivals and theatres in Cyprus. He has been the jazz guitar professor at the University of Nicosia since 2013 and is currently performing with his projects as a guitarist and composer at selected venues and festivals all over Cyprus and abroad.

Anastasiou is a vocalist and vocal teacher, well-known for creating The Amalgamation Project, a choir that sings melodies from around the Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and Balkan regions that glues together traditional sounds with jazz harmonies. She has performed at festivals and events around the world and led vocal groups at numerous Cypriot festivals.

Next week, Vasiliki and Ermis will come together for another one of the duo performances that are filled with sweet, nostalgic melodies.
