Conscious Speed-Friending event

You’ve heard of speed dating to meet potential love interests through a series of quick-fire, back-to-back dates and a few of these events have taken place in Cyprus too. Now, however, a new take to the approach arrives as an upcoming event in Kiti adapts it to friend-making.

The Girlfriends’ Circle, a membership-based community led by Stefania Bongiovanni, is organising a Conscious Speed-Friending event on January 27 at Club Hacienda where adults can chat and mingle with the purpose of making friends and connections. Besides dating, forming new friendships is often a more challenging task as you get older. Friends become parents, and grandparents, are busy and social circles get smaller and smaller. Wanting to bring people together to create meaningful interactions, The Girlfriends’ Circle is proposing this alternative evening event.

“Conscious Speed-Friending,” they say, “is a night of sweet conversation, open to everyone for the start of the year, where you can drop the small talk and ask the questions you really want to ask. We use the word ‘speed’ in the loosest possible sense. Real connection can’t be rushed and neither will we!

“Taking inspiration from the 36 Questions to Intimacy and The School of Life,” they add, “this kind of platonic friend ‘dating’ gives you a menu of profound, intriguing and spicy questions designed to inspire authenticity and deepen your connection with those around you. Throughout the evening, you will be guided into a series of 10-minute conversations with the other participants, in groups of 2s and 3s, and landing into a free-flowing social of live DJs music and dancing.”

The event begins at 9pm and a short break in the middle will allow participants to grab drinks and socialise with their speed-frienders. DJ Luke Fisher will be playing an eclectic selection of soul, funk, disco and house to go with the upbeat and cheery mood the event aims to create.
