Man accused of defrauding the elderly held until trial

cuffs, handcuffs

A 50-year-old man will stand trial on February 1 after having been charged with extracting money under false pretences.

Paphos district court ordered the suspect held in police custody until the date of the trial.

The man, who hails from Limassol, had been sought by police for an offence he allegedly committed on January 2. He was found and arrested on Wednesday.

According to the police, the same man had been in trouble with the law in the past, again for swindling elderly people – particularly elderly women – out of money. He had committed offences in all districts.

In 2022 the man had been sentenced to jail for similar offences, and released in late November.
