Where to catch live music this week

As the summer approaches, more and more music nights are on the island’s cultural agenda, and the third week of May has plenty of gigs in store in the island’s four major cities.

The week will commence with classical music as pianist Anita Tomasevich and violinist Olivera Rialas present Back to Bach on Monday in Paphos. Technopolis 20 will host the two musicians for an 8pm concert presenting an interesting programme by JS Bach.

Offering a bit of mid-week cheery fun is Mr Wilson band, which will perform at Limassol’s popular Mason Bar on Wednesday. The five-piece band will play a catchy selection of 80s-90s songs and the latest music hits filtered through a reggae and funky touch. On stage, Giorgos Nicolaou, Nicolas Genethliou, Rodrigo Caceres, Stefanos R Iassonides and Andreas Stefanou will put on a groovy show.

Dusty Munky will host the singer-songwriter on Thursday to present his head-bobbing grooves, sunny melodies and funk jams to get the crowd’s feet tapping and moving. Sunder’s signature sound offers modern impressions of strong retro vibes, offering an energetic set that blends soul, funk and pop-rock. He will be supported by his steady collaborators Frangiskos Petrides on drums, Andreas Papageorgiou on bass and Andreas Epaminonda on lead guitar. The music event will be completed with drinks from the bar and tasty pizzas.

On the same evening, over in Larnaca something different will take place at Savino Live (left). Christos Thivaios and Panagiotis Margaris will meet on stage to perform their songs in their signature styles. The live music will begin around 9pm and is expected to be a must-see event for lovers of Greek music.

Continuing the live shows in Greek is a unique performance by a Greek artist who will travel from Thessaloniki for his first shows in Cyprus. Dzingovic will perform at New Division in Nicosia on Thursday presenting songs from his first album as well as unreleased music and cover songs. Accompanying him will be Eva Ndourou on keyboard, Vasilis Mbacharides on drums and Lefteris Moumtzis on bass.

The week will wrap up with a Latin jazz night at the Rooftop Bar of Limassol Agora. Next Sunday, the Leonid Nesterov Trio, comprised of Leonid Nesterov, Andreas Stefanou and Rodrigo Caceres, will perform uplifting and Latin-infused jazz pieces from 6pm onwards to wrap up one more week packed with live music.
