It is not very often that Deryneia but this June community organisation Famagusta Avenue Garage teams up with the Larnaca Cinema Society to bring a screening of an award-winning Cypriot film.

Wednesday, June 7 will see a screening of the Cypriot comedy-drama Smuggling Hendrix. A free screening of the film will take place at 8.30pm at Famagusta Avenue Garage which will include Greek and Turkish subtitles.

The film received nine awards, including wins at the Los Angeles Greek Film Festival, the Cyprus Film Days International Festival, the Palm Springs International Film Festival and the Thessaloniki Film Festival. Directed by Marios Piperides, Smuggling Hendrix is about a faded musician Yiannis and his dog Hendrix. Just when Yiannis is about to leave Cyprus for a better life abroad, his plans get turned upside down when his dog crosses the buffer zone that separates the ‘Greek South’ from the ‘Turkish North’. A series of comic events take place as he tries to get his dog back, hitting obstacles put forth by the regulations at the division’s checkpoints which ultimately highlight the absurd Cypriot reality of life on the Green Line.
