Artist presents Woven Clay

On Thursday, Thinker Maker Space of CYENS presents the talk and project showcase Woven Clay by the artist in residence Demetris Shammas.

During his residency, Demetris explored the possibilities of ceramic 3D printing. By reimagining the object as an intertwining line in space, his ceramic pieces embody the essence of woven fabrics, knitting or basketry. Their texture, rhythm, undulations, and repetitions, emerge from the interplay between the predetermined programmable toolpath and the unpredictability of clay, its plasticity and behaviour under gravity loads.

These experimentations provide the groundwork for Demetris’ final case study: a small-scale aquaponics system composed of assembly-able ceramic modules that will be fabricated in October for the WIP Arts & Technology festival.

On June 8, the Cyprus-based architect and new media artist will host a talk and a discussion on this project at 6.30pm. Then, the project showcase will take place which will then remain open to the public from June 9 to 23.
