10 years for smuggling more than 16kgs of drugs

The Larnaca-Famagusta criminal court on Wednesday handed down a ten-year prison sentence to a 33-year-old woman, after finding her guilty of smuggling of 16.8 kilograms of cannabis.

According to a police statement, the drugs were discovered while Ykan drug squad officers and customs officers were checking the woman’s luggage at Larnaca airport on March 18.

They discovered a total of 13 nylon packages containing 16.8kgs worth of cannabis.

The woman was arrested for illegal drug possession with the intent of supplying and was sentenced to ten years in jail on Wednesday.
