A new solo exhibition will open at The Almyra in Paphos as July arrives. Titled An Everlasting Love, Maria Olympios’ showcase is presented by the Nicosia-based gallery Riana Raouna and will run from July 1 to 21.
“The exhibition brings together 35 paintings and a sculptural work created between 2018 and 2023 and explores the search for beauty and love, understanding, empathy and the alternative view of ourselves,” say organisers. “Through fluid and intuitive gestures, Olympios goes beyond representation and attempts to find the basic, metaphysical truth of life. By using mineral colours that she personally collects from the earth, she creates new realities on the canvas, ‘a world becoming’ where optimism and innocence are her guiding forces.
“At a time where our conception of life goes through a metamorphosis,” they add, “the exhibition An Everlasting Love rejects the absolute and invites the viewer to a journey of self-acceptance and rebirth. The free flow of natural minerals and iridescent colours on the canvas transcend the viewer to abstract landscapes reminiscent of the sea, the sky and the universe while maintaining a type of energy which comes from the artist’s broad conceptions of life but also, from nature itself.”
