A captivating evening of Spanish jazz is coming to Axiothea Mansion as part of the 26th Cultural Festival of the University of Cyprus. The Quartiana ensemble will take the floor on June 23 to present jazz-inspired sounds and rhythms of the Iberian Peninsula.
Four ethnic jazz musicians and members of the well-known Iberian percussion orchestra Coetus travel to Cyprus for the first time to enchant audiences with their unique, exciting and amazing sound that draws upon the rich musical tradition of their native land to create a lively and warm jazz atmosphere.
The concert will open with Martí Serra on stage on soprano and tenor saxophone, Xavi Lozano on baritone saxophone, Guillem Aguilar on electric bass and Aleix Tobias on percussion.
For those who want to dive deeper into the music, Aleix Tobias will hold a workshop on June 24 on traditional Spanish percussion and rhythm. As one of Spain’s most renowned traditional percussionists, Tobias’ workshop will be a unique master class for professional musicians and aspiring instrumentalists with a special interest in percussion.
The workshop will focus on traditional Spanish percussion instruments such as the pandereta or the pandero cuadrado, and typical rhythms such as ajechao, sorteao, corrido, jota, sevillanas and bulerias. After the three-hour workshop, costing just €20, the percussionist will award participants with a participation certificate signed by him.
