The environments of Home

fb event cover 1920x1005

Continuing to examine the different facets of Home under this year’s theme Home Away from Home, the Larnaca Biennale presents more events this week that focus on the environment. As the second themed week arrives, the Biennale’s upcoming parallel events explore the spaces where ‘home’ is built, the material and the internal, more personal environment that lives in all of us.

Coming up first is, Larnaca Biennale will join forces with Once In a Blue Moon and Cinebur to present an open-air cinema night. On Thursday evening, the charming garden of Kleidi Café Bar will transform into a cinema to feature eight independent short films that all deal with the concepts of ‘home’ and ‘environment’. The screenings will begin at 8.30pm and include subtitles in English while more cinema nights will take place on November 9 and 23.

Also happening this week is the Larnaka BioDesign Festival, a project by Larnaka 2030 with sustainability as its focus. From Sunday to November 5, the 10-day festival will travel through Zouhouri Square, Youth Makerspace Larnaca and Larnaca Archives – Fivos Stavrides presenting interventions weaved together with contemporary art, trends in the bio-design field and academic research. During this first edition, the festival aims to introduce the concept and practice of BioDesign, promote dialogue and the exchange of innovative ideas around sustainable practices.

Curated by Kravt and supported by the Kypria programme, the festival’s actions will include the building of a mycelium pavilion (a structure made out of natural mushroom webs), an art exhibition with seven renowned artists in the field of BioDesign, a lecture by BioDesign expert William Myers and one interactive workshop on BioDesign and the sustainable use of materials.

On Sunday, as the Biennale’s Environment Week comes to a close, six art schools in the town will open their doors to showcase their students’ art. From 4pm to 7pm, the public is invited to embark on a creative tour of local art schools. Participating are ARTIS art platform, Technon Horos School of Art by Ariana V Zakou, ARTokouto the Workshop, Three Dots Art Lab, TIME Private Institute and Spyra Art Studio. As the first week of November arrives, Larnaca Biennale will focus on Architecture & Design with six more parallel events diving into the topic.
