Two men arrested for thefts in Limassol and Nicosia

Police on Thursday said a 22-year-old and a 26-year-old were arrested as part of an investigation on thefts  in Limassol and Nicosia.

According to the police, the 22-year-old was arrested by Larnaca airport officers on Wednesday, shortly before attempting to depart the island. The stolen items was found in his possession.

The theft had been reported at 7pm by a 42-year-old man, who told police that around 4.30pm his mobile phone, worth €1200, was stolen after he had temporarily left it unattended in a building in Limassol.

Police subsequently obtained evidence against the 22-year-old and came to realise he intended to leave Cyprus on an evening flight, to return to his country of origin.

Police at both Larnaca and Paphos airports were alerted to the incident and three hours later on Wednesday evening, members of the Larnaca airport police identified the suspect during passport control.

The 22-year-old allegedly confessed to the theft of the mobile phone, which he had in his possession, and handed it over to the police.

He was arrested on a warrant and taken into custody pending further investigations by the Episcopi police department.

Meanwhile, Nicosia police on Wednesday arrested another suspect, aged 26, in relation to an investigated case of burglary and theft, to which the suspect admitted during interrogation, as well as for two previous crimes.

The crimes, allegedly committed between December 18-19, involved the theft of a computer from the reception area of ​​a building.

Police secured evidence against the 26-year-old and a judicial arrest warrant was issued against him. He was located and arrested shortly before 7.30pm.

When interrogated the 26-year-old allegedly confessed to two other burglaries and thefts, committed in Nicosia, between December 18 and 24.
