The price of ice cream and other summer related items went up in June, the Cyprus Consumers Association said on Friday.
Other items that increased in price included domestic package holidays, and hotel stays according to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) data for June 2024.
The data shows that compared to the previous month, ice cream has become more expensive, with an increase of 8.07 per cent. Domestic package holiday prices have surged by 11.8 per cent and hotel prices by 7.76 per cent from May to June.
Other products have also seen notable price increases. The cost of dried, salted, and smoked meats has gone up by 5.09 per cent. Yoghurt prices have risen by 3.75 per cent, while food processing appliances have increased by 3.5 per cent. Fresh fruits have also seen a price rise of 3.44 per cent over the same period.
However, not all categories experienced price hikes.
Sewerage services saw a significant price reduction of 10.4 per cent in June compared to May. The cost of TV subscription services dropped by 10.06 per cent. Fresh vegetables, excluding potatoes and other tubers, became 9.12 per cent cheaper, and overall vegetable prices fell by 7.07 per cent.
Looking at the year-on-year comparison, several items have seen substantial price increases. Olive oil prices have skyrocketed by 63.09 per cent. Passenger transport costs have climbed by 16.54 per cent. Fresh fruit prices have increased by 15.42 per cent, and overall fruit prices have risen by 12.87 per cent.
On the other hand, some items have recorded significant price decreases over the past year. Sugar prices have dropped by 20.44, garden furniture by 13.72 per cent and butter 10.42 per cent.
