Two men were arrested in Morphou after throwing stones at an army barracks on Sunday.

The pair were arrested at around 1.30am on suspicion of having caused a “general disturbance” and having engaged in “inappropriate behaviour”.

The Turkish Cypriot police said they had received complaints from other barracks at other times about similar incidents, and that they would investigate whether there was any possible link between those incidents and the two men arrested on Sunday.

In court, a police representative said that statements would be taken and that CCTV footage from the area would be examined.

He also said that the pair’s residence status in the north would be examined and requested that they be remanded in custody.

Judge Rauf Kursad acquiesced, and the pair will remain in custody for three days.
