Cypriot Twitch streamer Ahmet Sonuc, better known by his alias Jahrein, was arrested late on Thursday night in the Turkish Mediterranean city of Antalya for “obscenity”.

The Antalya police headquarters posted on X that Sonuc had, alongside another social media user, been the administrator of an online chat room by the name of “Incel chat room”.

They added that in that chat room, Sonuc had been seen to engage in “speech which is not in accordance with general morality and the general value judgments of society”.

Both Sonuc and the other person were arrested as a result, and have been charged with obscenity.

An incel is a member of an online community of men who consider themselves unable to attract women sexually. They are typically associated with views which are hostile towards women and towards men who are sexually active.

Sonuc was born to Cypriot parents though has lived for most of his life outside Cyprus, attending school in both Antalya and Turkey’s Black Sea city of Karabuk, while also living in both Germany and Poland in his later life.

He has 1.9 million followers on the streaming platform Twitch.
