A handful of new art shows open around Cyprus, showcasing a diverse range of artworks. The Sculptural Furniture Showcase just opened at Morfi Gallery in Limassol displaying award-winning pieces by Thalis Nicolaou Studio. Until November 27, the Cypriot designer will showcase his in-house collection for the first time in Limassol, featuring works from the A Side (Tables) Project and Slotted Need exhibitions as well as introduce a new console model inspired by the award-winning Woodworm design.
In Nicosia, Gloria Gallery will present the anniversary painting exhibition of Christos Foukaras, marking his 80th birthday. Opening the exhibition this Sunday, the artist will present his most recent work, including works from the last four to five years, with seascapes, houses, courtyards, compositions with human figures, all captured in oils and pastels, as well as selected works from earlier periods.
Also opening this week is Ioanna Epaminondou’s Coastlines exhibition at Prozak (Common Room) all about Cyprus’ shorelines. Through her work, Ioanna draws upon the lines and colours of the coast and sea as metaphors for life’s fluidity: boundaries that are ever-present but never fixed. The exhibition will be on for just four days, concluding this Sunday.
Next month, five friends and artists present their fourth group show together at the Municipal Library in Limassol. Titled Room with a View, the exhibition will showcase the works of Kelly Norman, Julie Menelaou, Alison Leggat, Katie Sabry and Sheila Raven from December 4 to 13.
All winter long, until the end of January, the old Nicosia Town Hall will host a travelling exhibition by the European Parliament titled Art in Democracy in which selected European artists share their thoughts on what democratic values are and reflect on the role of democracy as a whole on the lives of citizens.
