Three drunk drivers were involved in car accidents over the long weekend, police said on Tuesday.

As a result of the first, three people were taken to Paphos General Hospital as a 23-year-old driver involved in a head-on collision tested positive on an alcohol test.

His test showed 39μg instead of allowed 9μg.

In another accident, drunk driver 12 times over the limit crashed into another car in Larnaca on Monday.

The 21-year-old man was driving on Archbishop Makarios III Avenue when he crashed with another vehicle coming from the opposite direction, ending up with a small injury.

An initial breathalyser showed he had 94μg blood alcohol instead of the allowed 9μg, while in a final examination showed a reading of 100μg.

Earlier on Sunday, a 40-year-old man was stopped by police driving on the highway at a speed of 152 kilometres per hour, where the limit is 100.

An alcotest showed a reading of 47μg instead of 22μg, while he did not provide a satisfactory sample for a final alcohol test, as a result of which he was charged in writing.
