Alexandros Iosifidis, a seasoned engineer with 30 years at the Cyprus Shipping Chamber (CSC), has been appointed its new director general, effective from April 1, 2025.
He succeeds Thomas Kazakos, who is slated to become the secretary general of the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) in London.
Reflecting on his long tenure and future responsibilities, Iosifidis expressed his commitment to advancing the interests of Cypriot shipping on a global scale.
“As I complete 30 years of service at the chamber, I am committed to building on the substantial work that has already been accomplished, dynamically promoting the interests of Cypriot shipping and maintaining the vital role of our industry on the global stage,” he said.
Moreover, Iosifidis said that he looks forward to “strengthening partnerships with the Board of Directors, members, and industry partners to navigate upcoming challenges and capitalise on emerging opportunities.”
His career began in 1986 as a Mechanical Engineer in America, Cyprus, and Libya, eventually leading him to a role at the Cyprus Classification Society in 1992 as a ship surveyor.
In 2015, the Cyprus Maritime Administration nominated him for the role of ‘Maritime Goodwill Ambassador’ at the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), a position he still holds, dedicated to promoting maritime careers to youth.
Finally, the chamber congratulated Iosifidis on his new role and extended “its best wishes for his success in the demanding tasks ahead”.
