A 61-year-old man arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty was released on Tuesday with no charges.

The man was questioned and released, in connection with a case involving a dog found in a rubbish bag on Friday.

The dog was found by a woman on Friday in a rubbish bin while a short afterwards she took it to a veterinary clinic in Kissonerga in critical condition.

The dog’s 30-year-old owner was arrested and released on Sunday after being held in police custody for one day to help with inquiries.

“The dog was wrapped in a dog food bag and was in poor condition” when it was found, lieutenant Charis Charalambous said.

“At the scene, we found empty dog food bags of the same brand the 61-year-old is known to use for his own dogs,” Charalambous explained when the older man was arrested.
