A two-day cinematic event with documentaries from Cyprus, Spain and Germany is coming to Limassol next week. The cultural organisation AEI AUDIOVISUAL FORUM, in collaboration with the Department of Multimedia and Graphic Arts of the Cyprus University of Technology (Tepak) organises back-to-back screenings on January 31 and February 1.
The screenings include two Cypriot and two international documentaries that participated in and were awarded at the 7th International Cyprus Archaeological, Ethnographic, and Historical Documentary Film Festival (AEI Film Festival), held last autumn in Nicosia, and the CINeDUCATION 2023-2024 programme.
The event is held within the framework of the cultural cooperation memorandum between Tepak and AEI AUDIOVISUAL FORUM and is supported by the Cervantes Institute, the Embassy of Spain, the Association of Asia Minor Refugees of Cyprus, and the Goethe-Institut Cyprus.
The screenings are completely free to watch. Friday’s programme will begin at 7pm with opening remarks by Stavros Papageorgiou, Artistic Director of the AEI Film Festival, and Dr Evripides Zantides, Dean of the Department of Multimedia and Graphic Arts, Tepak.
At 7.15pm, the first documentary will be screened. The Cypriot ten-minute documentary The Sweetest Blessing has been selected, created by students of the A’ Technical School of Nicosia, focusing on Cyprus’ culinary tradition through the making of Kilaniotika Glytzista. At 7.30pm, the Spanish Mothertrickers will be presented – a film exploring the lives of female truck drivers that won the Best Short Documentary Award. The final screening for Friday is Seven Winters in Tehran, a German film about the women’s resistance in Iran which received the Best Feature Documentary Direction Award.
Saturday’s programme will have just one Cypriot historical documentary on the agenda. Memory of Sweet Homeland narrates the journey of Asia Minor refugees to Cyprus through the personal story of Anastasios Tosunoglou.
