The UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative Colin Stewart will have separate meetings on Friday with the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot leaders amid efforts to open more crossing points on the island and restarting the stalled Cyprus talks.

Stewart’s meeting with President Nikos Christodoulides is set for 3pm.

The UN diplomat will then cross to the north for his meeting with Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar an hour later.

Stewart on Thursday morning met negotiators for the two parties, Menelaos Menelaou and Gunes Onar.

Meanwhile, the UN security council is set to convene on Friday to renew the United Nations peacekeeping force’s mandate in Cyprus for another year.
