Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and the island’s creatives have put together an exciting list of things to do next weekend. And there is something for everyone – cutesy activities for you and your significant other, Galentine’s Day fun and even Anti-Valentine’s events.

To kick off the Valentine’s weekend, perhaps the most traditional event going on is a romantic concert by a beloved Greek singer on February 14. The Panos Mouzourakis In Love concert will entertain audiences with some of the most romantic songs from the Greek repertoire, sung live at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre.

Cyprus Comic Con will bring back its jam-packed Roll for Romance event on Saturday, filling The Mall of Engomi with activities. The event will run from 12pm to midnight with various activity corners for cosplayers, friends, couples and the CCC community. The Live Questing will take visitors on Valentine’s-themed adventures, from serenading strangers with cheesy love songs to other delightfully silly challenges.

Pop-Up booths will host artists and stores to explore, a karaoke corner will be set up and a cosplay contest will be held at 8pm. Visitors will also be the first to try out the beta version of Cyprus Comic Con’s very own card game – Roll For Quest. Short Dungeons & Dragons sessions will be held, a Valentine’s Mailbox will be set up collecting love notes and at 7pm, a K-Pop dance performance by Cray6ix will keep the entertainment going.

For a touch of something more crafty and hands-on, attend a series of ceramics workshops that Tochka Studio will offer in Nicosia. Choose from pottery wheel classes, hand-building with clay workshops, painting on canvases or ceramic mugs and plates and an afternoon creating something you will then get to take home with you. And make sure to pre-book, spots get filled up fast!

Limassol will be packed with love-themed events, approaching the theme from the worlds of ballet, music, cabaret and art. At Pattihio Theatre, the Celebrity Gala will present the Love Dance performance on Thursday and Friday, an evening of exquisite ballet and storytelling.

Dancers from the Bolshoi Theatre, the Dutch National Ballet, the Bavarian State Ballet, the Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre, the Mexican National Dance Company and the Berlin State Opera will present a programme with three acts.

Monaxia is a poetic ballet inspired by Greek mythology, Love Song is a one-act ballet by visionary choreographer Andrei Kaidanovsky and the Contemporary Gems programme will include fragments from Radio and Juliet to the music of Radiohead and other stirring pieces.

A shiny, glittery show dressed in the spirit of sexy cabaret will be on at the City of Dreams Mediterranean on February 14 as the Drama Queen presents another impressive performance. This luxurious cabaret show blends music performances, choreography, stand-up comedy, exquisite costumes and a cast of 16 dancers performing on a dazzling stage. This will be Ekaterina Varnava’s final show in Cyprus.

A candle-lit concert will take place on Saturday as The Italian Tenors present a romantic evening titled Candlelight Love Concert. The Pattihio Theatre will fill with Italian and global love songs, pop hits and arias from the most famous operas. With candles lighting the stage and the voices of the three renowned tenors, this is bound to be a unique performance.

For fun on Friday, Nostalgia Parties introduces a new project. The Nostalgia Parties x disclosure event at Mason Bar will present some of the most innovative music in local scene history. New York House, Acid, Detroit Techno and electronic music with influences from the 80s and 90s will sound. On the decks, DJ Manic Mike, and disclosure’s resident duo Axel and Chris Bodnar will keep party-goers on their feet.

Another party is on but this one is an anti-Valentine’s event because as organisers say “love is everywhere. Let’s celebrate love in all its forms: self-love, friendships, passions, and all those special moments that make life feel magical!”

Paradiso Di Eros in Foinikaria village will host an afternoon event with Italian pizza, cocktails, face painting, live cello music, DJs and a love wall for guests to leave notes to lovers, friends or exes. The fun begins at 2pm and lasts several hours with plenty of activities and stunning rural views.

Larnaca has a sassy event up its sleeve as well. The Not Another Valentine’s event will be a unique night blending stand-up comedy with a drag show. Performances by PHNX and Lynn Dynasty will entertain guests (16 and above), as will comedian Giorgos Kyriakou with his jokes. Savino Live will host the performers for an early Sunday show at 6pm.

The coming weekend will be a busy one, these are just a selection of the events happening throughout Valentine’s Day weekend and whether you are celebrating or not, they are proof that Cyprus’ cultural scene is diverse and creative!
