Police in Limassol arrested a 25-year-old man following a car chase during which warning shots were fired, it was reported on Monday.
According to police, officers on overnight patrol spotted a car shortly after midnight without front registration plates being driven by a person whose face was covered.
When police signaled the driver to stop, he sped off, and police ascertained that the rear licence plate did not match the car.
Police pursued the vehicle whose driver drove recklessly and dangerously, violating several traffic signals, and fired warning shots to halt him.
The driver subsequently abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot but the officers managed to immobilise him and arrested him after a scuffle, during which he attacked an officer.
Investigations revealed the vehicle had been stolen between January 24 and 25 in Limassol while three arrest warrants were pending against the 25-year-old for various other infractions.
