The National Guard on Wednesday announced that it had carried out a mock firefighting exercise with the aim of “testing the new fire management system” and “enhancing interoperability and cooperation”.
The exercises were conducted in collaboration with the fire brigade, the forestry department, the civil defence, and the ambulance service, with personnel from the National Guard’s aircraft squadron also attending.
“Through the various scenarios examined, the joining of forces, effective inter-agency cooperation, interoperability, and the implementation of a unified strategy were all tested, which will play a decisive role in the successful fulfilment of this specific mission,” the National Guard said.
It added that two Air Tractor aircraft have arrived in Larnaca from Jordan as part of the bilateral cooperation to support firefighting which Cyprus undertakes with Jordan.
Those two aircraft, the National Guard said, “will assist in the difficult task of combating the fires”.
National Guard chief George Tsitsikostas thanked the personnel who arrived from Jordan upon their arrival and wished them “every success in the difficult mission assigned” to them.
He added that the Jordanian personnel’s presence in Cyprus “demonstrates the upgraded cooperation and the excellent relationship between the armed forces of the two countries”.
