A mosquito disinfection crew was out on Friday to eliminate mosquitoes in the Ierokipia municipality following complaints from residents.

“The municipality crews will inspect public spaces for problems with stagnant water, which is a breeding ground for mosquitoes,” Ierokipia municipal health officer Marios Nikita said.

These breeding areas are sprayed with insecticides to prevent mosquitoes from completing their reproduction cycle.

“The main breeding grounds for mosquitoes are stagnant water in rivers or backwaters and abandoned swimming pools,” Nikita said.

People should be aware of these breeding areas and avoid having stagnant water in fountains, wells, old tyres that can accumulate water, buckets, even basins and flowerpots and saucers.

The mosquito situation is under control as the health service campaign of the municipality has taken over with close cooperation of the public,” Nikita said.
