One of the most exciting young string quartets to emerge from Italy in recent years is coming to Cyprus for a one-night-only concert in Nicosia. The Shoe Factory in the old town will host the four musicians on May 2 and the event is expected to be a highlight for the island’s music scene.

Formed in 2016 at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome, the quartet quickly distinguished itself for the freshness and depth of its interpretations, earning the prestigious Farulli Prize from the Italian Music Critics as part of the Franco Abbiati Prize in 2018. Since then, it has won top prizes at renowned competitions, including the Orpheus Chamber Music Competition in Winterthur, the International Chamber Music Competition Anton Rubinstein in Düsseldorf, and the International String Quartet Competition Paolo Borciani in Reggio Emilia.

Quartetto Eos has already performed in some of Europe’s most prestigious venues, including the Philharmonie de Paris, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, and Flagey in Brussels, while its ever-growing discography has affirmed its place among the finest chamber ensembles of its generation.

Elia Chiesa, Giacomo Del Papa, Alessandro Acqui and Silvia Ancarani will make their Cyprus debut next month presenting a fascinating programme comprising Haydn’s Fifth String Quartet from Op.20 – an opus that is considered a milestone in the history of composition; Mendelssohn’s last completed piece of chamber music, the forcefully impassioned String Quartet No.6 in F minor, Op.80; and one of the pillars of chamber music repertoire, Schubert’s Death and the Maiden quartet.
