A 26-year-old man died in Limassol on Friday night after the moped he was riding was hit by a car.
Limassol police officer Marios Charalambous explained that the incident took place on the city’s Dionysios Street.
He said a 21-year-old man was driving a car southwards along the street before attempting an illegal right turn onto Makarios Avenue. In doing so, he blocked the path of another car driven by a 25-year-old man, who took avoiding action and who then lost control of his car.
The 25-year-old’s car then careered into the moped, which was travelling westwards up Makarios Avenue at the time.
The moped rider was named at Indian national Nalla Naveen.
He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The 25-year-old was taken to a private hospital, where he was discharged after receiving first aid.
An arrest warrant was put out for the 21-year-old, who was then subsequently arrested in the early hours of Saturday morning.
