To conduct the PREMIERE 5 concerts, the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra welcomes on the podium the hugely talented Polish maestro Kinga Glowacka, winner of the CySO’s International Conducting Masterclass and Competition last year. Two concerts are set to enrich Larnaca and Nicosia’s music scene this week with a programme that combines two romantic gems by Edward Elgar and Johannes Brahms.
Larnaca audiences will enjoy a classical music concert first as an evening is planned at the Municipal Theatre G. Lycourgos on Thursday while a second concert will follow on Friday at Nicosia’s Pallas Theatre near Paphos Gate.
The repertoire will feature Edward Elgar’s Cello Concerto in E minor, a masterpiece that captivates with its profound emotion and subtle complexity. Composed in the aftermath of World War I, it reflects Elgar’s deep personal introspection and is filled with a rich, haunting tone and moments of intense drama. The orchestra is excited to collaborate with the highly distinguished Norwegian cellist Øyvind Gimse as the soloist in this magnificent concerto.
Also included in the repertoire is Johannes Brahms’ Symphony no. 1 in C minor, op. 68 that is often referred to as ‘Beethoven’s Tenth’ for its bold, grand scope. It combines drama, passion and a triumphant, uplifting finale to wrap up the evening.
