Larnaca’s district organisation (EOA) issued a total of 15 fines over the weekend to people washing pavements, roads, verandas, fences and cars with a hosepipe, it was announced on Tuesday.

EOA officials patrolled the city on May 10 and 11 in the broader effort to save water and caught people red-handed.

Apart from the 15 fines, the officials issued 20 warnings.

In a press release, Larnaca EOA reminds people that anyone breaking the law could face up to three months in prison or a fine of up to €513 or both.

However, fines of €15 could be issued for an out-of-court settlement.

Larnaca EOA said it would be stepping up its campaign to properly manage limited water reserves and prevent water cuts during the summer months.
