Two young tourists were injured on Tuesday afternoon after their off-road vehicle plunged into a 29-metre-deep gorge in the Akamas region.

The incident occurred at around 1.10pm, according to Paphos police assistant director of operations, Michalis Nikolaou. The two 25-year-old visitors were riding in a motorised buggy when the driver lost control under conditions that are still under investigation.

The vehicle veered off course and fell into a steep ravine in the remote, rugged terrain of Akamas.

Emergency services were quickly called to the scene, and both passengers were rescued and taken by ambulance to Polis Chrysochous hospital.

They were later transferred to Paphos general hospital for further treatment. Medical staff say their condition is not life-threatening.

Police are continuing inquiries to determine the exact cause of the accident.
