A 61-year-old woman is being treated in a critical condition at a private hospital in Limassol after being struck by a car on Monday morning, police said.

The accident occurred around 7am in the Ypsonas area while the woman was attempting to cross the road.

She was hit by a vehicle driven by a 33-year-old woman under circumstances that are still being investigated.

Police attended the scene and an ambulance transported the injured woman to the private hospital.

Medical examinations revealed serious injuries to her head, ribs and right leg. She has been intubated in the intensive care unit, and doctors have described her condition as serious.

Limassol traffic police continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
