Local theatre productions are increasing this spring. The majority are in naturally in Greek, a few are in Russian, so it is particularly exciting for the island’s anglophones when an English-language production appears. This week, that is exactly what is coming to Nicosia’s theatre scene as the Women Empowerment Theatre, also known as W.E.T, presents The Decorator.
Written by Natasha Tavoukjian and directed by Monica Gavrielides, the play will be presented on two evenings at ARTos House in Nicosia, Friday and Saturday. The play is a heartfelt, humorous and moving exploration of the relationships that shape us, those that surprise us, and those that never let us go.
After a successful tour in Beirut, where the play was warmly received, W.E.T. now brings this celebrated production back to the stage with renewed energy and international acclaim. Apart from enriching the local theatre scene, the event stays true to the group’s mission of uplifting women and girls through the power of theatre as the play combines powerful storytelling, rich characters and emotional depths. And not without moments of laughter and tears, after all, they are a common part of life.
