Journalist and Volt candidate Makarios Drousiotis presented evidence to the police on Friday regarding allegations of a corruption ring involving politicians, judicial and financial figures.

Before giving his statement, Drousiotis met police chief Themistos Arnaoutis, and deputy chief Panikkos Stavrou, following earlier discussions with the investigator assigned to his case.

He informed authorities he possesses material from legal circles, including information related to a witness referred to as Sandy, concerning former judge Michalakis Christodoulou, former MEP Dimitris Papadakis, and vice president of Edek Morfakis Solomonidis.

He left police headquarters after noon offering the laconic statement, “the die has been cast.”

Christodoulou and Papadakis are scheduled to appear at Nicosia criminal court to file complaints against Drousiotis for slander and alleged forgery of documents.

Justice Minister Costas Fitiris said the case must be clarified promptly to prevent allegations from circulating unchecked.

He confirmed a police team has been appointed to investigate.

“The probe must be reliable and thorough and concluded as quickly as possible,” he said.

Fitiris rejected calls for foreign investigators by Drousiotis’ team, saying local institutions must be trusted, while leaving open the possibility of technical support if required.

“Those making allegations cannot dictate how investigations are carried out. conditions cannot be imposed on the process,” he said.

The allegations, first made publicly by Drousiotis on March 30, sparked an immediate controversy.

The journalist claims to have collected messages and recordings implicating the individuals in criminal activity and corruption, which he delivered to police for verification.

Legal sources described the material as coming from professional contacts within judicial and financial circles, though its authenticity and context remain under review.

Drousiotis had previously met the assigned investigator on Thursday evening to discuss the complaints.
