Dozens of notable buildings in Nicosia will be open to the public this weekend under Open House Nicosia 2026, part of an international architecture initiative.

Organisers said the event will turn the capital into an “open museum” of architecture, showcasing both historic and modern spaces.

Selected public and private buildings will welcome visitors through free guided tours led by volunteers and professionals.

Sites open to the public will include the Hadjigeorgakis Kornesios Mansion, Cyprus Museum, Leventios Municipal Museum of Nicosia and Nicosia Municipal Arts Center (NiMAC), alongside modern developments such as 360 Nicosia and The Landmark Nicosia, Autograph Collection.

Other participating locations include those that do not normally welcome members of the public, including the University of Cyprus library, the Cyprus Architects Association building and the Goethe Institute, the Nicosia Tower and Home 0410 in Ayios Dometios.

The programme also features architectural walks, talks and parallel activities aimed at highlighting the city’s urban landscape and encouraging dialogue between architects and the public.

Organisers said the initiative promotes transparency in architecture and raises awareness of urban development, heritage and design through direct public engagement.

The event forms part of Open House Worldwide, a global network launched in London in 1992 that promotes architecture by offering free access to buildings and urban spaces.

Now active in more than 60 cities, the initiative aims to help people better understand how cities are designed, built and function.

The festival is organised by the NGO Voices of the City – Open House Nicosia under the auspices of the Municipality of Nicosia, with support from the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ETEK).
