Cyprus remains “a reliable and consistent partner” for Egypt, according to Labour Minister Marinos Mousiouttas, following a mutual review of the implementation of a 2024 labour mobility deal covering the employment of Egyptian workers in Cyprus.
According to a statement by the Labour Ministry, Mousiouttas paid an official visit to Cairo from April 20 to 22, leading a delegation and meeting Egyptian Labour Minister Hassan Radat El Sayed.
During the meeting, the two ministers discussed the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in June 2024 between Cyprus and Egypt, which concerns the employment of Egyptian workers in Cyprus and, according to the statement, marks an important step in bilateral relations.
Mousiouttas said the memorandum provides “a comprehensive and reliable framework” for safe, legal and mutually beneficial labour mobility, while also helping address the needs of the Cypriot labour market with full respect for workers’ rights and dignity.
At the same time, he said Cyprus attaches particular importance to the substantive implementation of the agreement, which, according to the ministry, further strengthens the close ties of cooperation and friendship between the two countries.
He also said Cyprus would make every effort to ensure the memorandum is fully and effectively implemented, with the aim of delivering “mutually beneficial results”.
In that context, Mousiouttas said Cyprus remains a reliable partner, committed to honouring its obligations and to further deepening its strategic relationship with Egypt.
The two ministers, accompanied by their delegations, also visited the Al-Hegaz Vocational Training Centre, where they were briefed on the programmes offered by the Egyptian Ministry of Labour.
Mousiouttas also invited his Egyptian counterpart to Cyprus, in what the ministry described as a reciprocal gesture of hospitality and a further step in labour cooperation between the two countries.
