A 30-year-old man died after a traffic accident on the Kelia Troulloi Road in Larnaca, police confirmed on Monday.

Georgios Georgiou, a father of two young children who worked at the Larnaca district local government organisation (EOA), was riding a motorcycle at around 7.25pm when the crash occurred.

According to police, the motorcycle, driven by Georgiou, collided with a car driven by a 28-year-old woman, with a 32 year old man in the passenger seat alongside two children aged four and two in the back seats.

Both Georgiou and the family sustained injuries and were taken by ambulance to Larnaca general hospital, where Georgiou was pronounced dead.

The four occupants of the car received first aid at the hospital and were subsequently discharged.

Police said the circumstances of the collision remain under investigation.

Preliminary examinations indicate Georgiou was not wearing a protective helmet at the time of the crash.

The driver of the car was given both a breathalyser test and a drug test, both of which returned negative results.

Early police findings suggest that while entering a bend, the motorcycle crossed into the oncoming lane before colliding head on with the car.

Police have since revealed that Georgiou had borrowed the motorcycle from his best man to carry out mechanical checks, intending to return it on the evening of the crash.

He leaves behind a wife and two young children, one born only a few months ago and the other aged seven.
