A 21-year-old foreign national drowned in the sea off Limassol at noon on Monday near the old port dock.

The police said the man was on his way out of the sea when he lost consciousness for reasons still under investigation.

Beachgoers pulled him unconscious out of the water and he was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A postmortem will determine the exact cause of death.
