Who doesn’t love crispy, delectable tempura as part of a delicious Japanese meal?

Tempura is a typical Japanese dish usually consisting of seafood, meat, and vegetables that have been battered and deep-fried. The dish was introduced by the Portuguese residing in Nagasaki, through the fritter-cooking techniques of the 16th century.

In this video, Takahiro Sakaeda of New York’s Nami Nori restaurant demonstrates how to make tempura, starting by whipping up two dipping sauces: a traditional tentsuyu dip and a yuzu-flavoured soy sauce.

Next, he prepares a variety of veggies and seafood, like sweet potato, corn, eggplant and squid, before finally frying each piece in a light batter, resulting in crispy, dippable bites.
