Laborious to make… but oh, so worth it, Opera Cake is a rich French dessert, that relies on one of the most beloved of flavour combinations: chocolate and coffee.

The confectionary features layers of almond sponge cake soaked in coffee syrup, filled with coffee buttercream and chocolate ganache and topped with chocolate glaze. As a final flourish its name is written on top of each slice, and decorated with gold leaf.
