Archaeological works at ancient Kiti port to resume in October

ΑΡΧΑΙΟ ΛΙΜΑΝΙ

Archaeological works at the ancient port of Kiti will resume in October, the Larnaca municipality announced on Monday.

The Larnaca Tennis Club will be moving from the ancient port area to a new location to enable further works on the site.

The dig, which will form part of the research conducted in the area by the French archaeological mission, has been approved by the antiquities department and is scheduled to finish by the end of 2021.

After that, a new management plan will be set in motion to promote the archaeological site and make it more accessible to the public, with defined routes and information for visitors and improved disabled access.

The Larnaca Tennis Club was moved as part of efforts to complete works in the ancient port area and with the aim of eventually forming an archaeological park that will combine research conducted by the antiquities department, the French embassy’s cultural foundation and Larnaca municipality.
