Nicosia’s art scene welcomes a new exhibition this week as Cypriot artist Nikos Papaloukas showcases his latest pieces in a show called Harmony at Alpha C.K. Art Gallery. Running from Friday until March 19, this latest body of work presents paintings and sculptures inspired by music, musicians and the enjoyment of their art.

The paintings are presented mainly on black backgrounds to enhance the feeling of an evening outing at smoke-filled small music halls where people gather to sing and dance. The use of a black background is a new aspect for Papaloukas as his work up to now has been characterised by white backgrounds and fonts. Despite this significant change in colour, the artist remains true to his characteristic geometrical structure and large, flat colour schemes to create clear forms and compositions based on elementary shapes and colours.

Harmony is an all-encompassing title for this series of work as it reflects not only the subject theme but the artist’s objective in composing and presenting his work. Besides being presented physically at the gallery, the exhibition is also available to see online through a virtual 3D showcase. Art lovers can catch it online via this link.
