Police confirmed Monday they have received a new sexual harassment complaint from a woman, reportedly a teacher.

Spokesman Christos Andreou said the woman reported the case through her lawyer.

“We contacted her, a meeting was set up and a statement was taken on Sunday,” Andreou said.

The unidentified woman spoke to Omega television on Monday, claiming the alleged perpetrator had a history of sexual harassment and that the school authorities did not do anything about it.

Police have received 24 complaints recently, including one against a former MEP and a senior clergyman, with some cases already before court.

A special team of officers has been investigating the complaints, filed recently after Greek athlete Sophia Bekatorou spoke out publicly about her rape by a senior member of the Hellenic sailing federation back in 1998.

Bekatorou paved the way for people who were sexually abused to break their silence, with a domino effect of harassment reports in Greece and in Cyprus.
