One death from coronavirus and 599 new positive cases were announced on Saturday out of 61,883 PCR and rapid tests, a positivity rate of 0.97 per cent.
The death was a woman, aged 84, who died at Limassol general hospital. So far 438 people have died from Covid-19: 286 men and 152 women with an average age of 77,1 years.
There are 285 people in hospital with the virus, 95 of them in serious condition. Fifty are intubated.
Forty-eight of the new cases were detected through contact tracing, 126 are people who took PCR tests privately, 30 are samples processed in state hospitals’ labs, two are people referred for testing by their physicians, and 276 are people who got rapid tests privately.
Seven cases were detected during testing at the Larnaca and Paphos airports.
Another 110 cases were among samples processed at the rapid testing sites through the health ministry’s testing programme. Of these, one case was detected in a closed structure. In addition, 39 cases were detected in the Nicosia district among 7,060 tests, 27 in Limassol (4,013 tests), eight in Larnaca (2,152), 12 in Paphos (1,798) and 23 in the Famagusta district (1,791).
The total number of cases is now 105,593.
