The health ministry said on Sunday that two people died from Covid-19 and that 208 tested positive from 30,027 PCR and rapid tests, a positivity rate of 0.69 per cent.

The deaths concerned two women aged 74 and 87, one of whom died on Saturday and one on Sunday at the Nicosia General Hospital. This brings the total to 499 with an average age of death of 77.

There are 157 people in hospitals of whom 61 are in serious condition. Of these, 24 are intubated. The ministry said the number of unvaccinated patients was 84 per cent.

Of the 30,027 tests on Sunday, 5,191 were PCR and 24,836 were rapid tests yielding 208 positives as follows:

14 from 119 samples taken through contact tracing
9 from 3,504 samples taken at airports
27 from 1,299 samples taken through private initiative.
1 from 64 samples processed at hospital labs
85 from 11,468 tests done in private labs and pharmacies
72 from 13,368 tests under the government’s free testing programme for certain groups
