Larnaca is to press forward with a renewed vaccination campaign as officials fret over the district’s coverage, which is about ten per cent lower than the rest of the island.

Larnaca mayor Andreas Vyras met with representatives from the district’s municipalities and announced four steps aimed at increasing uptake of the vaccines.

Specifically, he said that a video campaign with Larnaca residents encouraging vaccination will take place while a mobile jab unit is to service the rural communities.

It was stated that doctors, athletes and the church will be involved in the videos, which aim to emphasise the benefits of receiving the Covid-19 vaccine.

There are also plans underway for freebies for the vaccinated. These could include free parking downtown and at Makenzie beach. Free sunbeds and umbrellas on the beach were also mentioned. A ‘live-link’ in popular recreational areas is planned as well.
