No deaths from Covid were recorded in the past 24 hours, as 280 new infections were detected after 65,948 tests, a positivity rate of 0.42 per cent, the health ministry said Monday.

The number of people hospitalised with Covid was 68 with 25 in serious or critical condition.

Since the start of the pandemic, 574 people have died from Covid while the number of infections reached 124,724.

The ministry said 63.24 per cent of the hospitalised patients were not vaccinated.

Five post-Covid patients remained intubated in ICUs.

Of the 25 patients in serious or critical condition, six were on a ventilator, three were in ICU but not on ventilation, and 16 in high dependency units.

Most of the new cases, 137, were reported by private labs and pharmacies after carrying out 37,719 rapid antigen tests.

Twenty-four cases were close contacts of previously confirmed infections, detected in 362 samples.

Eight cases were reported at the two airports after testing 3,259 samples belonging to arriving travellers.

Private labs reported 37 cases in 1,511 samples while state hospital labs detected four cases in 317 samples.

A further three infections were reported after tests to 149 people referred by GPs.

The state’s screening programme reported 67 cases in 22,631 samples.
