Police booked 22 people after more than 3,000 nationwide checks were carried out for the implementation of Covid protocols in the last 24 hours.

Most people were booked for failing to wear a facemask during the 3,080 checks between 6am on Wednesday and 6am on Thursday, a police spokesperson said.

Six people were booked in the capital where officers carried about half of the checks, 1,550, while another six were booked in Limassol after 222 checks and another five in Larnaca after 407 checks.

In Paphos, officers carried out 168 checks and fined three individuals, while in Famagusta, 388 checks were carried out during which two people were booked.

No violations were reported by officers in Morphou, traffic, marine and port police.
