Three car fires occurred overnight sparking investigations into their causes by authorities, officials reported on Thursday.

According to the fire service, two fires occurred in the Ayios Ioannis area of Limassol, and both are presumed to have been arson.

The first broke out at 2:40am, when the car of a 66-year-old man caught fire, while it was parked outside of his home.

The man manged to put out the fire before it spread and called police and the fire service to the scene to investigate.

According to the fire service, the blaze broke out when a flammable substance was put on the car. Authorities said that the substance left a three-metre-long mark on the vehicle, ending at the right front tyre.

At 4am, the authorities were called to deal with another vehicle fire, this time involving the car of a 52-year-old woman.

The fire service extinguished the blaze, and from their investigations they determined that fire started at the back left tyre and spread to the back window.

Meanwhile, Paphos police also reported that a car fire on that broke out in the night.

The car, which belongs to a 35-year-old man and was parked on a road due to a battery issue for five days, was seriously damaged, according to authorities.

Damages occurred to the front windscreen and the passenger seat from the blaze.

The fire was put out by the fire services, and the cause is still being investigated.
