Colourful pots, green gardens and artists’ studios characterise Lania village, a small hub within the Limassol district. It is situated at the foot of mount Troodos, has a bit of a winding route to reach but offers plenty to see and do for a short day visit. Every year, the Women of Lania put together an event that offers visitors a glimpse into the local houses and the creativity that surrounds them. The Lanes & Courtyard 2023 event will take place this weekend, featuring open yards, children’s workshops and a treasure hunt among the activities.
Throughout both days, the treasure hunt will take place from 11am to 5pm while stalls will showcase local creations and art. On Saturday, a session of theatre games for children titled ‘Courtyard frolics inspire fairy tale stories’ will take place at the village museum at 10.30am. Meanwhile, Athasi Creative Studio will host two workshops from 11am to 1pm. One is a ceramic art workshop while the other is a spring wreaths workshop using recycled fabrics. In the afternoon, a short 30-minute talk will be given at 4pm on how rosewater is made. The day will end with traditional dances at the church square by Maria’s Dancers.
On Sunday, the day will open again with the treasure and the art stalls which will continue throughout the whole day, while more events take place. A storytelling session titled Fables & Stories will happen at the museum courtyard at 3.30pm followed by the rosewater talk at 4pm on 25 Martiou Street. At 5pm, traditional dances will break out at the church square by the Double Bridge Dancers while half an hour later, an echanting walk will begin by The Goldfinches, starting at the square, spreading through the village and finishing at the museum. Wrapping up the weekend’s activities is a raffle draw at the museum’s courtyard.
