This summer, village theatres and squares around Cyprus will continue to resound with the sounds of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra as another edition of its Community Outreach Concerts takes place. As part of the Orchestra’s Orchestra 4 All 4 programme, the musicians will travel to suburban areas all around the island this June, bringing classical music to villages and small regions.

Under the direction of the young Cypriot conductor Kyriaki Kountouri, a further five summer concerts are planned which will feature a selection of uplifting popular classics, stage music, works inspired by traditional dances as well as orchestral arrangements of Cypriot traditional songs.

The concert series began on Thursday in Polis Chrysochous. On Friday, the orchestra will travel to Ypsonas to play at the Marios Tokas Square before heading south to Pervolia on Saturday for a concert at the Pervolia Community Theatre. Next, a Paralimni concert will take place on June 8 at the Paralimni Municipal Amphitheatre. The final two concerts will be at the Malounta Community Amphitheatre on June 9 and the Lefkara Conference Centre on June 10.

All concerts will begin at 8pm and are free to attend as they are held in collaboration with the local municipalities. Music by Mozart, Schubert, Delibes, Alkis Baltas, Dvorak and Bartok will sound along with the well-known traditional Cypriot songs To Tertin tis Kartoullas Mou (The Sorrow of My Little Heart), Tessera Tzai Tessera (Four Plus Four) and Psintri Vasilitzia Mou (My Delicate Basil).
